Job Summary

Job Summary: Job incumbent develops and provides health, safety, and injury prevention education, media messaging, and training to TCC region villages.

Adhere to the TCC Ch' eghwtsen' model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Community Injury Prevention Project Coordinator, job incumbent will be assigned from the following representative duties:

1. Assist in the development and implementation of Community Injury Prevention, and Seasonal Safety media messaging, council articles, and trainings that enhance community safety.

2. Actively participate in providing community crisis response services. Including but not limited to contributing to outreach efforts by promoting boating safety through educational displays, community events, and collaborative initiatives with local organizations.

3. Assist in the development and implementation of presentations for seasonal injury prevention topics focused on drowning prevention for use in schools within the TCC region for preschoolers, youth, and adolescents.

4. Design and implement prevention, health education and injury prevention trainings around seasonal drowning prevention for parents, adults, and elders in the TCC communities.

5. Assist with supporting an injury prevention store by sourcing and maintaining inventory of seasonally and regionally relevant safety products, such as those related to water and boating activities.

6. Participate in store planning, data collection, and program evaluation to help improve service delivery and support the overall goals of the Community Injury Prevention Program.

7. Collaborate and foster working relationships with programs within TCC. Including but not limited to, Village Public Safety, Office of Environmental Health, CHAP, Family Services and Behavioral Health programs.

8. Collaborate and foster working relationships with local, state, and federal agencies.

9. Develop and maintain a database of statewide health resources.

10. Assure compliance with data collection requirements.

11. Attend professional development training, workshops, and conferences, as needed.

12. Responsible for the preparation and timely submission of all program, contract and grant reports, including monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

13. Must maintain strict confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate's degree in Human Service Field, Health Education or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

2. Demonstrated experience successfully working with Alaska Native or American Indian and rural populations.

3. Must have or obtain Current First Aid and CPR certification upon hire. First Aid and CPR Instructor Course Certification preferred.

4. Demonstrated experience in formal presentations and teaching students/adults.

5. Must pass background check pursuant to Alaska DHSS and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

6. Valid and clean driving record.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Familiarity with Alaskan Native Culture and Traditions preferred.

2. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act (HIPPA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.

2. Ability to present to small and large groups.

3. Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

4. Familiar with and assures compliance with Privacy Act requirements.

5. Ability to operate standard office equipment.

7. Strong computer skills, with experience in Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, and the Internet.

7. Must be organized and able to prioritize work.

8. Must be able to work collaboratively as a team member.

9. Ability to adapt to a continuously changing environment and duties.

Supervision: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Supervision

Physical demands: Mostly sedentary position with long periods of sitting and typing. Frequently work under deadline situations. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.

Frequent travel to interior villages required. Incumbent may be expected to work extended hours to complete tasks. Conditions include but are not limited to travel by small un-pressurized aircraft, poor heat, lack of running water, and adverse weather conditions. Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds in support of equipment and supplies. Position requires sitting, standing, and considerable walking. Incumbent must be able to work effectively in a busy, sometimes stressful environment. Shared office space.

Summation

Summation: Incumbent delivers health, safety and injury prevention education, training and outreach programs to TCC region villages. This position supports development of prevention initiatives, seasonal safety campaigns and educational materials.
