Unique Lady Bridal Boutique is seeking an experienced Bridal Seamstress & Alterations Specialist to join our team. This position requires previous professional sewing and alterations experience and is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and creating the perfect fit for each bride.
Our seamstress will work directly with bridal gowns, formalwear, and delicate fabrics. The right candidate must be confident performing both standard and complex alterations while maintaining the original design, structure, and quality of each gown.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform professional alterations on bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride/groom dresses, and other formalwear.
- Conduct fittings with brides and customers and accurately determine necessary alterations.
- Perform hemming, taking in and letting out seams, shortening and adjusting straps, and bodice alterations.
- Install and adjust bust cups, boning, lining, closures, hooks, and other structural components.
- Create and install bustles appropriate for different gown and train styles.
- Work with lace, beading, appliqués, tulle, chiffon, satin, crepe, organza, and other delicate fabrics.
- Remove and reapply lace, appliqués, and embellishments when required to complete alterations properly.
- Perform zipper, button, hook-and-eye, and closure repairs or replacements.
- Complete custom modifications when appropriate, including neckline, sleeve, strap, and other design adjustments.
- Pin and mark gowns accurately during fittings.
- Maintain detailed alteration notes and communicate completion timelines with the boutique team.
- Ensure every gown is professionally finished, pressed or steamed, inspected, and ready by the customer’s scheduled completion date.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional alterations workspace.
- Handle every bridal gown with exceptional care.
Experience Requirements
Professional sewing and alterations experience is required for this position.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous professional seamstress, tailoring, or alterations experience.
- Bridal and/or formalwear alteration experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction and fit.
- Experience using professional sewing machines and alteration equipment.
- Ability to confidently work with delicate, embellished, and multilayered garments.
- Strong hand-sewing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Ability to accurately assess alterations and complete work within established deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor when working directly with brides and customers.
