The Classroom Floater provides flexible, day-to-day support across classrooms to ensure safe supervision, smooth transitions, and consistent routines. This role focuses on coverage, classroom operations, and child supervision rather than curriculum planning or primary instruction. Floaters help maintain continuity when regular staff are absent or supporting other center needs.
Primary ResponsibilitiesClassroom Coverage & Supervision
- Provide classroom coverage as assigned, including during staff absences, breaks, and transitions
- Supervise children to ensure safety, engagement, and adherence to classroom routines
- Maintain required child-to-staff ratios at all times
- Follow established lesson plans and classroom expectations set by Lead Teachers
- Support children’s social-emotional needs through calm, respectful, and consistent interactions
Daily Operations & Transitions
- Assist children during arrival, departure, meals, rest time, and outdoor play
- Support smooth transitions between activities and spaces
- Help maintain an orderly, welcoming classroom environment
- Communicate observations or concerns to Lead Teachers or Administration
Center Support & Maintenance
- Assist with cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, toys, dishes, and shared spaces
- Support meal and snack setup and cleanup in accordance with center guidelines
- Complete classroom opening and closing tasks as assigned
- Provide additional support to classrooms experiencing higher needs during the day
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health, safety, and licensing requirements
- Conduct basic health and safety checks as directed
- Participate in emergency drills and follow safety procedures
- Report any concerns related to child well-being immediately
Professional Expectations
- Arrive on time and remain flexible to meet daily staffing needs
- Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and teamwork
- Participate in required training and onboarding
- Accept direction and feedback from supervisory staff

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Ability to work in multiple classrooms and adapt quickly
- Willingness to support a variety of classroom needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with young children
- Early childhood coursework or training
Additional RequirementsCertifications (Required or Upon Hire)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Alaska Approved Health & Safety and Mandatory Reporter Training
- Approved background check with Municipal Licensing (including fingerprinting and Interested Person’s Report)
- Proof of U.S. employment eligibility (I-9)
