Position Title: Senior Cost & Project Accountant

Position Summary / Job Purpose
Labsphere is seeking a Cost & Project Accountant to support manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, project financial reporting, and profitability analysis. This role will work closely with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Management to ensure costs are accurately captured and financial performance is clearly understood.
The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, an analytical mindset, and experience working with inventory, manufacturing costs, or project-based accounting. Experience with Epicor ERP is preferred.
Work Location and Hybrid Schedule
This position is based in North Sutton, New Hampshire. Following an initial onboarding and training period, the position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule of up to two remote days per week, based on business needs, job performance, and manager approval. Regular on-site presence is required to effectively partner with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and the manufacturing team.
Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
· Maintain and analyze product costs, bills of material, labor routings, overhead rates, and standard costs.
· Support the annual standard-cost update and analyze the resulting financial impact.
· Review purchase price, material usage, labor, overhead, and manufacturing variances.
· Investigate significant cost variances and partner with Operations and Engineering to resolve underlying issues.
· Support inventory valuation and reconcile inventory-related general ledger accounts.
· Assist with cycle counts and physical inventories, including analysis and resolution of discrepancies.
· Analyze excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory and support the related reserve calculations.
· Monitor project costs, budgets, commitments, billings, and profitability.
· Review project financial performance and identify cost overruns, margin deterioration, or other emerging risks.
· Support revenue recognition and project-accounting activities in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards.
· Review work-in-process balances and help ensure costs are recorded in the proper accounting period.
· Prepare project and product margin analyses for Finance and operational leadership.
· Support month-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance reporting.
· Help strengthen internal controls and documentation related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and project accounting.
· Assist with audit requests and other special projects as assigned.
· Use Epicor and related reporting tools to extract, reconcile, and analyze operational and financial information.
General Requirements (Education, Experience, Attributes of Successful Candidate)
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
· Approximately three or more years of relevant accounting experience.
· Knowledge of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
· Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, manufacturing accounting, or project accounting.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
· Ability to investigate discrepancies and communicate findings clearly.
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with Finance and operational teams.
· Preferred: Experience in a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment.
· Preferred: Experience with Epicor ERP.
· Preferred: Knowledge of standard costing, bills of material, labor routings, and manufacturing variances.
· Preferred: Experience with project accounting, percentage-of-completion concepts, or project profitability reporting.
· Preferred: Familiarity with Power BI or other reporting and visualization tools.

The successful candidate will improve the accuracy and visibility of product and project costs, strengthen inventory accounting, and provide meaningful analysis that helps the organization manage margins and operational performance.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
