Weekend Manager
Schedule: Friday through Sunday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (~24 hours/week)
Compensation: $18 – $24 per hour, depending on experience; additional Bonus Incentive

About Us
Gruene Barks & Rec is a boutique boarding and grooming resort in historic Gruene. We are not a big-box kennel — our guests are family members, and our clients trust us with them because we know every dog and every owner by name.
Position Summary
The Weekend Manager is the face of Gruene Barks & Rec on Saturday and Sunday — the manager on duty responsible for our guests’ safety, our clients’ experience and the smooth operation of the resort. Your enthusiasm and leadership will help create a positive experience for pets and their owners alike. The ideal candidate is warm, outgoing and genuinely energized by people and dogs alike. You will run check-ins and check-outs, supervise weekend staff, monitor animal health and safety as well as make sound decisions independently when the owner and weekday management are off-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Manager on Duty — Serve as the sole manager on duty; open and close the facility and hold keys/alarm codes
- Check-In / Check-Out — Run all boarding and grooming check-ins / check-outs; verify reservations, vaccination records, feeding/medication instructions and belongings
- Client Experience — Greet every client warmly by name, give departure updates on each guest’s stay, handle questions and concerns on the spot, and answer phones for bookings and inquiries in line with our relationship-first approach
- Animal Care, Safety & Welfare — Ensure all dogs receive proper care, feeding, medication, exercise and socialization safely in all weather condition; Monitor every guest’s health, behavior, and stress level throughout the shift
- Incident Response — Respond immediately to animal illness, injury or issues; if situation dictates, bring animal to veterinarian; document all incidents in writing
- Staff Supervision — Direct weekend kennel staff; assign tasks, verify completion of cleaning and care checklists and coach in the moment
- Facility Standards — Ensure kennels, suites, play yards and the lobby meet our cleanliness and sanitation standards at all times
- Records — Keep boarding records, medication logs, incident reports, and end-of-day cash/payment reconciliation accurate and complete
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in pet boarding, daycare, veterinary or animal care
- A warm, upbeat, people-first personality — you make clients feel welcome and their dogs feel at home
- Capable, confident and calm dog-handling skills with a focus on safety, including reading canine body language and managing group play safely
- Excellent customer service skills with a positive attitude and clear communication abilities
- Demonstrated sound judgment working independently, including during emergencies
- Reliable weekend availability, every Friday–Monday, including holiday weekends
- Ability to pass a background check
- Must have own vehicle to take animal to veterinarian in case of emergency
- Must be 18 years of age or older (keyholder and manager-on-duty responsibilities)
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous veterinary technician / assistant experience is highly desirable
- Prior manager-on-duty, key holder and/or shift experience
- Experience with boarding / point-of-sale software and multi-line phones
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Stand, walk, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods; lift and carry up to 40 lbs unassisted; control large dogs on leash
- Work indoors and outdoors in all Texas weather
- Exposure to animal waste, loud barking, cleaning chemicals, and risk of bites and scratches
Compensation & Perks
- $18 – $24/hour depending on experience; premium rates considered for candidates with veterinary credentials
- Bonus Incentive in addition to hourly pay
