Reports To: Director of Nursing (DON) / Nursing Supervisor
Position Summary
The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations of an assigned unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality resident care in accordance with federal, state, and facility regulations. The Charge Nurse supervises nursing staff, coordinates resident care, administers medications and treatments, and serves as a clinical resource for residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other nursing personnel on assigned shifts.
- Ensure residents receive safe, compassionate, and individualized nursing care.
- Administer medications, treatments, and physician-ordered procedures accurately and timely.
- Complete resident assessments and promptly report changes in condition to physicians, families, and appropriate staff.
- Develop, implement, and update resident care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate clinical interventions.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Monitor infection control practices and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations, including CMS standards.
- Participate in admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Assist with incident investigations and complete required reports.
- Mentor, coach, and support nursing staff to promote quality resident care.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- New York State RN License
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of nursing experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation preferred.
- Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations and standards of practice.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to delegate effectively while maintaining accountability.
- Commitment to providing compassionate, resident-centered care.
- Proficient in medication administration, documentation, and clinical assessments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist residents throughout the shift.

Pay: $49.96 - $53.46 per hour
