Basic Job Functions
The Hospital Cleaner is responsible for proper disease control throughout the hospital by cleaning the facility and doing laundry, as well as sterilizing surgical instruments, preparing surgical packs and cleaning the surgical suite. S/he should always be aware and observant of patient behavior, and may also assist with the feeding, walking and general care of patients. This position works closely with Veterinary Assistants and Technicians.
- Clean, fold and stock laundry throughout the day.
- Promptly and efficiently clean and sanitize exam rooms and treatment areas between patients.
- Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages, treatment areas, exam rooms, and public areas, following the cleaning protocol, as well as the daily, weekly, and monthly checklists.
- Maintain stock of non-medical supplies, such as cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, etc. throughout the hospital.
- Maintain stock of general use medical supplies in exam rooms and treatment areas throughout the day.
- Clean surgical laundry, clean and sterilize surgical instruments and prepare surgical packs as needed.
- Know and follow protocols for disease control and cleaning.
- Recognize and report obvious signs of patient illness, disease and / or discomfort to a member of the medical staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently
- Occasionally lift over 100 lbs. with assistance
- Stand and/or walk for most of the day
- Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must reach, handle, and finger throughout the day
- Able to talk, hear and/or smell
- Good vision, including peripheral vision, fine detail, distance, and depth perception.

- Must be willing and able to follow instructions.
- Able to process information rapidly and accurately.
- Able to ask for and accept assistance when needed.
- Able to work independently and complete job tasks without reminders and close supervision.
- Able to remain calm during stressful or frustrating situations.
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
