Responsibilities
- Safely operate flatbed tractor-trailers across local routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load, secure, and unload freight using manual handling techniques, forklifts, or other equipment as required, ensuring cargo integrity during transit.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS navigation systems to reach delivery locations promptly while optimizing routes for fuel efficiency and time management.
- Deliver freight to various customer sites, including those requiring specialized handling such as hazardous materials or dangerous goods, following all hazardous materials regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before and after each shift.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and reports in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, delays, or issues encountered on the route.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record and at least one year of commercial truck driving experience.
- Proven experience with flatbed trailer operations and securing cargo using appropriate tie-downs and manual handling techniques.
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures including load & unload processes for freight such as machinery or construction materials.
- Familiarity with route driving within local areas using GPS navigation tools.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks comfortably and safely over extended periods.
- Understanding of DOT regulations, FMCSA standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols related to commercial trucking.
- Experience with specialized equipment such as forklifts or dump trucks is a plus but not mandatory.
