Position: Operator
Job Description
Under minimal supervision from the Pleasant Township Board or Overseer, the Operator performs a variety of skilled duties associated with the operation of heavy trucks and equipment as well as the repair, maintenance and construction of roads, and right-of-way.
Responsibilities
- Operates road grader, or other large equipment
- May weld
- Plows snow from roads as required and spreads gravel base for road repair and/or construction
- Drives heavy semi and twin-axle trucks to haul material and move heavy equipment
- Operates front-end loader to load sand, gravel, and other materials onto trucks
- Uses a backhoe and lifts a variety of heavy objects as necessary
- Operates roller, water truck, tractors, broom, mowers, and trailers
- Monitors condition of equipment and performs routine maintenance on assigned heavy equipment including lubricating vehicles, checking tire pressure and transmission, engines, hydraulic and differential oil levels
- Changes flat tires
- Repairs or replaces culverts, signposts and/or mailbox posts as required
- Records maintenance and usage and keeps logs to record fuel and oil consumption, machine hours and projects
- Performs related work as required

- Safety standards and practices
- Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned area of responsibility
- Rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to area of assignment
- Work zone safety, traffic control and flagging
- Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in equipment operation
- Safe, efficient operation of assigned equipment
- Road layouts and routes
Ability To
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets common safety manuals and instructions
- Operates equipment for extended periods of time during difficult weather conditions
- Operate assigned equipment in a safe, effective, and efficient manner
- Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Receives, understands, and carries out oral and written instruction
- Be called out and work weekends

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- Possesses valid Commercial Driver’s License
Required Education or Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- or two to three years related experience and/or training
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
