Position Summary
Simple and Grand is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Assistant Grower to help produce the exceptional plant material our customers have come to expect. This role works directly with the Head Grower and production team to ensure crops are grown, maintained, and finished according to company standards.
The ideal candidate is passionate about horticulture, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and possesses strong leadership skills. This individual will play a key role in crop production while helping lead and develop our production team.

Key Responsibilities
Crop Production & Plant Health
- Assist with all aspects of crop production and finishing.
- Monitor plant health, crop development, and overall quality.
- Execute growing schedules established by the Head Grower.
- Identify and communicate crop concerns, deficiencies, disease pressure, insect pressure, or environmental issues immediately.
- Assist in implementing corrective actions to maintain crop quality.
Irrigation & Environmental Management
- Monitor and assist with irrigation programs.
- Help maintain optimal environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, airflow, and light levels.
- Assist with greenhouse environmental control systems and daily monitoring activities.
- Track and record environmental conditions as needed.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Scout crops regularly for insects, diseases, and cultural issues.
- Assist with biological control programs and other IPM strategies.
- Maintain accurate records regarding scouting observations and treatments.
- Directly report all insect and disease concerns to the Head Grower and assist in developing effective solutions.
Plant Material & Inventory
- Assist with receiving plant material from suppliers.
- Inspect incoming shipments for quality, health, and accuracy.
- Report any issues regarding plant quality, shortages, or shipment concerns.
- Assist with inventory management and crop tracking.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop our production team, ensuring all plant material is grown, handled, and maintained according to Simple and Grand standards. Provide training, coaching, and accountability while promoting a culture of quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Communicate growing priorities and expectations clearly to team members.
- Support production staff in understanding the importance of proper plant handling and crop care.
- Foster a positive, safety-focused, and team-oriented work environment.
Production Support
- Assist with transplanting, spacing, pruning, pinching, fertilization, and other crop maintenance activities.
- Help maintain greenhouse cleanliness, organization, and efficiency.
- Support production planning and seasonal crop scheduling efforts.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure successful crop production and delivery timelines.
Record Keeping & Communication
- Maintain accurate crop records and production notes.
- Communicate regularly with the Head Grower regarding crop status and production needs.
- Participate in production planning meetings and contribute ideas for process improvement.
QualificationsPreferred Qualifications
- Degree or coursework in Horticulture, Greenhouse Management, Plant Science, Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Greenhouse, nursery, landscaping, or agricultural production experience.
- Understanding of plant nutrition, irrigation, environmental controls, and pest management.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to work extended hours during peak production seasons when necessary.

Within the first year, the Assistant Grower will:

- Demonstrate leadership and accountability within the production team.
- Help maintain exceptional crop quality and consistency.
- Successfully identify and address crop issues before they impact quality.

- Support the development of a strong team culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
