The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead at Wildwood Creek Correctional Complex (WCC) located in Kenai, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy duty and light duty vehicles, equipment, and mechanical systems.

Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks to ensure reliable operation and regulatory compliance.

Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.

Oversee daily shop operations and provide direction, training, and oversight to inmate workers to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant work practices.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following all workplace safety procedures and guidelines.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This is a state adult correctional institution that houses inmates of all custody levels. Because this position works within the secure area of the facility and with inmates daily, strong situational awareness is essential.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

Vehicle Maintenance: Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Mechanics: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, benefits, repair, operation, and maintenance.

Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
