Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to provide exceptional patient care in our infusion department. This is a per diem position responsible for rendering safe, comprehensive, and appropriate infusion care to patients, including ongoing assessment, treatment, care planning, patient teaching and medical care evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality.
- Provides patient care based on Infusion Nurses Society guidelines, standards of care, and federal and state laws and regulations along with ID Care policies and procedures.
- Obtains, verifies, and records health history, chief complaint, physical assessment including IV information. Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and patient records and records information in EMR.
- Confirms appropriateness of ordered treatments, executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, prepares, and administers prescribed oral and intravenous medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress, and patient response.
- Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, IV site choices and care, and current treatment management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies as mandated by OSHA and ID Care policy and procedure.
- Documents assessments, interventions, health histories, patient/family responses, and medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in EMR.
- Uses time effectively and efficiently, sets priorities, orchestrates multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal and clearly communicates with infusion staff and physicians regularly.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient/family with education materials upon admission and clearly communicating physician advice/instructions during duration of treatment and upon discharge.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: RN. Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant IV nursing experience.
- Other Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. IV certification. Current CPR certificate. ACLS encouraged.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the nursing process, understanding of infusion technology, equipment, and supplies; familiarity with state law on nursing care, INS guidelines, and ID Care clinical policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of infectious diseases, intravenous antibiotics, and wound care treatments.
- Knowledge of EMR documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
Skills:
- Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing and medical care coordination.
- Skill in IV care and management.
- Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response.
Abilities:
- Ability to analyze treatment options and then counsel patients and families about choices and make necessary referrals to other providers and resources.
- Ability to engage clients and families in treatment plan and implementation of a plan of care.
- Ability to read and interpret physicians’ orders and notes from other providers and the knowledge to deem them appropriate.
- Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and to prepare necessary IV medications for immediate use.
Equipment Operated: Standard nursing equipment and supplies including blood pressure machine, thermometer, oxygen tank, AED, infusion pump, syringes, pulse oximetry unit and computer.
Work Environment: Infusion suite and medical exam/treatment rooms when applicable. Controlled lighting, air quality and temperature settings. Environmental hazards may be unpredictable including exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
Mental and Physical Requirements: Involves standing, walking, bending, grasping, manipulating, and squatting. Occasional need to lift patient during transfer/turn process with or without assistance. Stress can be involved by workload and difficult IV cases.
Other Requirements:
1.Influenza: All employees of ID Care shall be provided the influence vaccine. Employees will be required to obtain the influenza vaccine by December 1 of each calendar year.
2. MMR: If born in 1957 or later, employees must provide serologic evidence of immunity or documentation of 2 MMR vaccinations. If an employee requires a measles antibody titer, s/he may have it drawn at ID Care. If non-immune, ID Care will provide the vaccination.
3. Varicella: Employees must provide serologic evidence of immunity, prior vaccination, or history of varicella disease. If an employee requires a varicella antibody titer, s/he may have it drawn at ID Care. If an employee is non-immune, ID Care will provide the vaccination.
4. Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis: Employees must provide documentation of a one-time dose of Tdap to assure immunity to pertussis. If there is no history of Tdap, ID Care will provide the vaccination. Tdap vaccine must be updated every 10 years.
5. PPD: Employees must have an appropriate screening test for tuberculosis. This can be accomplished by a chest X-ray or a Quantiferon test within 7 days of employment.
New ID Care employees and anyone on a deferral are required to meet the requirements of the policy as soon as possible after starting employment or following the end of the deferral.
