Summary of Role:
The primary focus of the Residential Behavioral Assistant (RBA) is to assist in the planning and implementation of recreation, social and other developmental programs for clients. The RBA supervises and counsels clients during free time and planned activities and works diligently to ensure that clients maintain a safe and healthy living environment. RBA’s are regarded as a liaison for clients to utilize in order to obtain community resources and other daily supports in an effort to promote self-sufficiency and progress toward independent living.
- E Medication Monitoring
- E Monitoring activities of daily living
- E Daily monitoring of client adherence to proper hygiene
- E Teaching/assisting appropriate hygiene skills
- E Ensure each resident has clean clothing to wear each day
- E Daily identification/monitoring of safety and cleanliness issues in the client’s living environment
- E Observing/Teaching/Assisting with appropriate cleaning and home safety skills
- E Daily identification/monitoring of client nutrition and cooking needs
- E Ensure each client has food and skills needed to prepare three meals per day
- E Provide daily assistance with meal planning and preparation for residents
- E Provide assistance with food shopping
- E Provide assistance to clients in community settings
- E Provide role modeling and skill building with social interactions
- E Monitor supplies for houses/apartments weekly
- E Timely documentation of client contact
- E Assistance in crisis/emergencies
- E Provide 1:1 support to clients on caseload as needed
- E Protects agency property and adheres to posted speed at all times when driving UBCSS’ vehicles.
All other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Can be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree with the expectation of completion during 1st year of employment.
Experience: 6+ years without Bachelor’s Degree in the mental health, social work, or human services field, residential experience preferred
Special Training/Skills:
Good interpersonal skills with emphasis on emotional maturity, Good written and oral communication skills necessary.
Physical
Requirements: Physical requirements performed often are walking, standing, and/or sitting for up to an hour during the workday. Often requires repetitive use of wrists, hands, and legs. May require lifting (up to 50 pounds) and/or bending. Repetitive use of wrists and hands when operating equipment. Ability to administer CPR, first aid, CPI, properly in order to maintain a therapeutic milieu.
Other: Good interpersonal and team skills required to work as member of an interdisciplinary team. Appropriate and effective verbal and written communication skills must be demonstrated during all aspects of client and peer interactions.
Licensure/ Certification:
Valid driver’s license is required. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), basic First Aid, and CPI will be provided and must be completed within the designated timeframe for continued employment. Certifications must be maintained and updates/changes in course requirements must be adopted positively.
