CMM Programmer – Quality & Inspection | Defense & Commercial Manufacturing
Location: Skokie, IL (On-site)
Pay: $30–$40/hour + up to 15 hours optional overtime per week
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Overview
A well-established manufacturer catering to both commercial and defense sectors is seeking to hire a CMM programmer to join their tight-knit quality team. The site operates Brown and Sharpe DCC CMMs with three models utilizing PC-DMIS. While current programs are available, they require user-friendly adjustments, and new programs will be developed as production needs increase.
This role is hands-on and requires full-time presence on-site for tasks such as first-piece inspections, incoming vendor assessments, and comprehensive assembly evaluations. As the team grows, the individual in this role will also become involved in training new CMM operators, emphasizing clear communication and collaborative teamwork alongside technical proficiency.
Responsibilities
Write, update, and manage CMM programs within PC-DMIS across various Brown and Sharpe DCC units
Conduct initial inspections for CNC machining setups and incoming vendor components
Carry out thorough assembly inspections, including GD&T evaluations on intricate parts
Enhance existing programs for improved operator usability and overall efficiency
Assess current CMM equipment and offer suggestions for controller upgrades if necessary
Train new CMM operators and provide support as they become more independent
Directly operate CMMs until additional operators are trained and onboarded
Identify and resolve programming and inspection issues, communicating findings to quality and production teams
Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
Requirements
High school diploma required; AAS degree or CMM programming certification preferred
1–2+ years of PC-DMIS programming experience required
Calypso experience is a plus
Hands-on experience in metal fabrication, machining, or related manufacturing required
Defense, military, or aerospace background strongly preferred
ITAR familiarity preferred
Proficient in manual metrology tools like micrometers, height gauges, and similar instruments
Experience inspecting machined parts, castings, and assemblies with GD&T callouts
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and troubleshoot with minimal guidance
Collaborative attitude with a genuine desire to train others and continue personal development
US citizen or green card holder required
