Tool crib attendant provides technical and mechanical expertise and advice to management and sales regarding the development, testing and maintaining of press tooling and associated heavy equipment to ensure processes proceed efficiently and cost effectively; devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products, such as industrial tooling equipment and machinery, power equipment, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
About the Role
The Tool Crib Attendant takes stock inventory of tool distribution in the VSG Group warehouse that is equipped through the use of the Kardex Machine. These tools are often loaned out to operators in Cold Heading and Thread Rolling. When returned, the job of a tool crib attendant is to check for wear or defects. They are also in charge of proper usage for set ups of job changes or to store for later use. Stock management and inventory is also an imperative aspect for the job.
General Responsibilities
Below is a generalized list of activities VSG Group expects to ensure all members in the department follow:
· Compliance with Safety and PPE usage (eyewear, earwear, work shoes, uniform) etc.
· Collaboration with Italian Staff to continually improve processes/workflows
· Punctuality and compliance with overall attendance and workplace policies.
· Production Sheets are filled out appropriately and timely
· Weighing and following the appropriate scrap process
· Parts produced are routinely and frequently checked according to quality control plan
· Proper communication is being passed down at changeover of shift
· Communication boards are updated and followed accordingly
· Targets and Metrics are visible and clear to all
· Lunch Break Policy is being followed; punching in and out for paid break time.
· Proper Cleaning and Purging of Machinery
· Down Time Data Collection
Job Duties
· Receiving tools and dies to load them in a Kardex storage system.
· Preparing tooling sets and related documents for machine operators according to instructions provided by production manager or the leads of the departments
· Collaborating with machine operators to minimize downtime by retrieving replacement tools as needed including assisting them with substitutions by searching for unlisted part numbers.
· Using idle time to audit/correct inventory, organize storage, and practice good stockkeeping.
· Working with operators to understand emerging issues and low stock items, providing feedback to management and Norm Fasteners SAP
· Putting together tool orders and using the tool analysis in SAP to create an excel sheet to send senior executives
· Send out quotes for tooling
· Create PRs for future PO’s
· Create Info records for the tooling that we are ordering form our suppliers
· Collect data on new/ experimental tools for the data in SAP
· Package tooling up and ship it to the supplier for reworking
· Assist in production paperwork for Heading/ Rolling (print the production page and trace cards)
· Train new hires or existing employees with production paperwork, Kardex, SAP, Steel, etc.
· Daily plant walk throughs and communications sent to management
· Perform Duties as Assigned
Qualifications To succeed as a Tool Crib Attendant at VSG Group, you need to have the following:
· Any degree in business or job-related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
· Basic Computer skills are necessary, Excel and Outlook are used daily for simple tasks. The candidate will be trained on job specific tasks with Kardex Power-Pick, Teamcenter (document management), and SAP software.· The ability to visually inspect tooling for cracks or other obvious defects and develop judgment about what requires replacement due to damage or wear.· Willingness to be trained to clean, inspect, and assemble/disassemble die sets with simple hand tools and a small hydraulic press.· The ability to make measurements with digital calipers.· The candidate has experience and the ability read (and correctly understand) charts, tables, and simple mechanical drawings.· Good organizational skills with the ability to be interrupted to meet urgent needs and then resume appropriated tasks· Good written and verbal communication skills in English with the willingness to learn to read a few words of a foreign language to retrieve technical information.· Willingness to walk through an industrial environment with loud machines, oil slick floors, forklift traffic wearing PPE that includes safety glasses, hearing protection, and shoes with safety toes.· Willingness to learn and have ambition to grow and advance their knowledge Working conditions
