The Cook is responsible for the professional and sanitary preparation of all meals, ensuring they are nutritious, palatable, and visually appealing for residents, staff, and guests. This role requires strict adherence to all dietary guidelines, food safety standards, and established menus while prioritizing a positive and resident-focused dining experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Meal Preparation and Service:
- Prepare and cook a variety of menu items following standardized recipes and production sheets for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
- Ensure all food is prepared on time, served at the correct temperature, and plated attractively.
- Accommodate special dietary requirements (e.g., pureed, low-sodium, diabetic, thickened liquids) and resident food preferences as directed by the Dietary leader or menu plan.
- Assist in serving meals as necessary, maintaining a pleasant and respectful demeanor toward residents.
- Safety and Sanitation:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment in compliance with all federal, state, local, and facility sanitation and safety regulations.
- Practice proper food handling, storage, and disposal techniques to prevent foodborne illness and minimize waste.
- Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas after use.
- Inventory and Administration:
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, rotating, and storing incoming food and supplies.
- Report food and supply shortages, as well as any malfunctioning equipment.
- Teamwork and Communication:
- Communicate effectively with the other kitchen staff, and nursing personnel regarding resident dietary needs, substitutions, and changes.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the facility's values and mission, treating residents, families, and staff with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
Qualifications
- Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in high-volume cooking
- Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes and menus.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to ensure timely meal delivery.
- Strong attention to detail, especially regarding portion control and dietary restrictions.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to [Insert X] pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to work with and serve older adults.
- Preferred but not required - proficiency in preparing various cooking styles and therapeutic diets.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
