Duties
- Greet clients warmly, schedule appointments, and manage patient check-ins and check-outs with efficiency.
- Handle medical collections accurately, ensuring proper billing and payment processing in accordance with veterinary administrative support protocols.
- Assist with kennel duties, including animal husbandry and basic animal care tasks, to support the overall health of hospitalized animals.
- Maintain detailed records using veterinary software, including client information, medical history, and laboratory results.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up appointments while adhering to veterinary terminology standards.
- Support veterinary staff during medical-surgical procedures by preparing supplies, restraining animals safely, and assisting with aseptic techniques when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations and USDA guidelines related to medication handling and record keeping.
- Manage laboratory tasks such as sample collection or processing in line with veterinary critical care procedures.
- Assist with equine or other large animal appointments when required, utilizing your knowledge of animal anatomy and handling techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized front desk area while supporting the overall clinic environment through excellent customer service.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, medical-surgical procedures, and companion animal medicine.
- Proficiency in veterinary software systems and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication purposes.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners.
- Experience handling dogs, cats, or other animals safely using proper restraint techniques; kennel experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices, including basic animal care, grooming, feeding, and sheltering protocols.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures related to veterinary medicine; experience in medical collection is advantageous.
- Ability to follow aseptic techniques during procedures such as animal catheterization or surgery preparation.
- Understanding of Veterinary critical care practices and emergency response protocols.
- Knowledge of federal regulations including DEA rules for controlled substances and USDA guidelines for animal transport and treatment.
- Strong organizational skills to manage front desk operations efficiently while multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
