Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Shipfitter to join our dynamic manufacturing and construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and welding metal components to create durable ship structures and related equipment. Your expertise in sheet metal fabrication, welding techniques, and blueprint reading will be essential to ensure precision and quality in every project. Duties
- Interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately assemble ship components.
- Use hand tools, power tools, plasma cutters, press brake machines, and other fabrication equipment to cut, shape, and assemble sheet metal and structural parts.
- Perform MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), <LOCATION> welding, and Soldering with precision to meet ASME codes & standards.
- Measure materials with calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools to ensure exact fitment according to specifications.
- Fabricate ductwork, piping, and structural assemblies using rigging techniques and pipe threading skills.
- Operate forklifts and other machinery safely to move heavy materials around the workspace.
- Conduct quality inspections using schematics and basic math skills to verify dimensions and alignment; make necessary adjustments for optimal fitment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment while adhering to safety protocols at all times.
Experience
- Proven construction site experience or manufacturing background involving heavy metal fabrication.
- Hands-on experience with MIG welding, TIG welding, FCAW, <LOCATION> welding, plasma cutting, and press brake operations.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and technical drawings related to shipbuilding or similar industries.
- Knowledge of ASME codes & standards applicable to welding and fabrication processes.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, forklifts, machining tools, and soldering stations safely.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations essential for precise assembly.
