JOB DESCRIPTION
- School Paraprofessional/ Nurse Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS :
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Beginning 8/02 a minimum of two years of study at an institution of higher education; or obtain an Associate’s Degree or higher)
- LPN with current licensure through the Alabama Board of Nursing
REPORTS TO : Lead School Nurse/ Teacher/ Principal
JOB GOAL: To assist the Lead School Nurse in activities related to health service programs; To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment so that students may learn effectively
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning
- Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children
- Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children
- Alerts the teacher to the special needs of individual children
- Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary
- Helps maintain individual records for each child
- Works under the direction of the school lead nurse to provide student care that may be needed
- Responds to potential emergency situations, which may require the administration of Glucagon and other medications related to the student’s condition
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by higher authority
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Terms of employment shall be consistent with the law relating to employment by a school system in the State of Alabama. Nine-month year, with a salary scale established by the Board for this position.
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
