Job Overview
We are seeking a detail‑oriented individual to perform string instrument setup and finishing work on violins, violas, cellos, and basses. You do not need to be proficient in setting up all these types of instruments.
This role is ideal for a luthier, woodworker, musician, music teacher, band director, carpenter, or anyone skilled with their hands who enjoys precision craftsmanship.
This is a flexible, output‑based position where quality and completed work determine earnings—not hours worked.
You may work onsite or in your own shop. Instruments need to be picked up from and delivered back to our shop.
This position is offered as an independent contractor (1099), with the potential to transition to full‑time employment for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Perform setup and finishing work on string instruments
- Follow defined standards and specifications with tight tolerances
- Ensure instruments meet quality and playability requirements
- Perform fine, repetitive handwork with consistency
- Maintain an organized and efficient workflow
- Complete assigned instruments within agreed‑upon deadlines
Qualifications
- Experience Required (luthier work, instrument repair, or similar)
- Strong fine motor skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work within precise tolerances and specifications
- Comfortable with repetitive handwork
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Musical background (instrument player, teacher, or band leader) is a plus
