Under the general supervision of the special Services Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant performs all specimen accessioning, LIS data entry, customer related duties, clerical and typing assignments in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

- Sort and distribute lab specimens in the Central Accessioning area.
- Data entry and requisitioning into the LIS.
- Sort and distribute Patient Lab reports.
- To provide front-line Customer Service in person and/or by telephone to refer customers to the appropriate office or staff, perform related work.
- Act as a liaison between our organization and external customers. Explain departmental services, policies, procedures and rationale for decision to customers.
- Insert and check nightly Backup tape.
- General Preventive Maintenance and troubleshooting of certain LIS hardware and equipment.
- Retrieve patient information missing from requestions ; clarifying test requests ;reporting receipt of unacceptable specimens.
- Filing of Requestion forms.
- Answer telephone calls in a professional, courteous manner.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or Equivalent and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
- Clerical Experience.
- Minimal typing skills.
- Laboratory related experience.
