Job Summary:
The Direct Care Aide (DCA) in a Group Adult Foster Care (GAFC) program provides essential hands-on support to members in a community residential or group setting. The DCA assists individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), promotes independence, and ensures a safe, respectful, and supportive environment under the supervision of nursing and program staff.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulation, and eating

Support members with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) such as light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation (as applicable)

Monitor member well-being and report any physical, emotional, or behavioral changes to nursing staff

Assist with medication reminders in accordance with program policies (no administration unless authorized)

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for members

Foster a respectful and supportive atmosphere that promotes member dignity, independence, and choice

Document care provided and observations accurately and in a timely manner

Follow individualized care plans and directions from nursing and supervisory staff

Participate in bi-monthly team meetings for care coordination and program updates

Report incidents, safety concerns, or suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with guidelines from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the Disabled Persons Protection Commission

Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety procedures
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Previous experience in caregiving, home health, or human services preferred

Experience working with elderly individuals or adults with disabilities is a plus

Ability to follow care plans and work under supervision of nursing staff

Reliable transportation may be required depending on program location
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification

CPR/First Aid certification
