This position directs Foundation crop production, harvesting, storage, purchasing, conditioning, treating, bagging, and shipping for peanuts and other crops for Georgia Seed Development (GSD) in Plains, Georgia. The manager oversees facility operations and directs a staff of seven full-time and three-to-five seasonal employees. The manager inspects farmer stock peanuts, operates drying, cleaning equipment, storage facilities, shelling, and seed treating. The manager acts as a main link between GSD and peanut contract growers, licensees, and university and USDA-ARS researchers.
Job Summary
We are hiring a dedicated, hands-on GSD Foundation Production/Conditioning Manager. This position will oversee daily operations at our Foundation Peanut Center near Plains, Georgia. You will manage the movement of peanuts from the farm to the GSD plant, ensuring proper grading, drying, storage, shelling, and treating and providing similar activities for Foundation wheat, soybeans, and Bahia grass. You will also guide Foundation contract growers and lead the full- time and seasonal staff throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
Seed Production: Develop production plans to meet customer demand. Maintain
accurate, real-time records of seed processing activities, inventory, and lot tracking.
Crop Processing: Monitors the unloading, drying, cleaning, and storage of farmer stock
peanuts and Foundation soybeans, wheat, and Babia grass to maintain high quality.
Quality Control: Collaborate closely with Federal/State Inspectors to ensure accurate
grading of peanuts upon arrival.
Peanut, Soybean, and Wheat Conditioning: Oversee peanut shelling, seed treating,
bagging, and shipping for peanuts and soybean and wheat cleaning, treating, bagging, and
shipping.
Staff Leadership: Train and supervise seven full-time and three-to-five seasonal workers
and equipment operators.
Grower and Licensee Relations: Serve as the primary contact for Foundation contract
growers and licensees. Negotiate grower contracts and provide support for seed
marketing for contract growers and manage delivery of Foundation seed to licensees.
Facility Management: Maintain all facilities and equipment and perform pre-season
setup, and ensure a clean, safe workplace.
Personal Licenses: At the time of employment must possess a valid driver’s license and
possess the ability to operate pick-up trucks, tractors, forklifts, and 2-ton trucks. Must
possess or obtain a seed peststicide license.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the peanut or in a relevant agricultural industry
Basic mechanical skills to troubleshoot and maintain equipment
Effective communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work additional hours and weekends during the fall harvest season and peanut
shelling
Ability to lift 50-pound seed bags
What We Offer:
Salary range of $75,000-$90,000 depending on education and relevant experience
