Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of a portfolio of commercial real estate properties. Key responsibilities include property accounting, cash management, tenant receivables, utility invoice processing, monthly financial reporting, and accounts payable administration. This role works closely with the Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, Property Managers, and other team members to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while providing a high level of service to both internal and external stakeholders.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in our office. Employees are expected to work on-site four days per week, with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week after successfully completing an initial onboarding and training period.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Monthly property financial package preparation and review.
- Assist in the month-end close, including review and preparation of journal entries, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Perform monthly accruals and other one-off monthly close items.
- Assist in the year-end budgeting and tenant reconciliation processes.
- Review A/P invoices, post payment batches, and electronic payment activity
- Collect and post tenant rent payments and apply tenant prepayments. Apply and post rent concession receipt batches and tenant account adjustments.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and assist with cash management activities.
- Post utility submeter charges and credits and maintain supporting documentation. Prepare and enter utility-related journal entries and other recurring accounting entries.
- Coordinate with Property Management personnel to resolve tenant and vendor accounting issues.
- Provide administrative and analytical support to the Accounting Manager and Finance team.
- Review lease commission billing.
- Administer and reconcile designated corporate credit card activity.
- Special reporting and analytical or Ad Hoc projects as needed or requested.
Qualifications
- 2–6 years of accounting, bookkeeping, property accounting, or related experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Experience in commercial real estate and property management software highly preferred.
- Willingness to learn and upgrade skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
