Responsibilities
- Review medical records and documentation to assign appropriate codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately via Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims to facilitate timely medical collections.
- Verify patient insurance information and ensure all billing details are correct before submission.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, adjustments, and payments received.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies or patient inquiries related to billing statements.
- Stay updated on changes in DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications, coding guidelines, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical terminology and records management.
- Familiarity with DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems and medical office software.
- Knowledge of medical collection procedures and insurance claim processes.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple billing tasks efficiently.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and translate it into accurate codes for reimbursement purposes.
