Metrology Technician

Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect incoming materials, in-process production, and finished machined components to ensure conformance with blue prints, customer specifications, and quality standards.
- Perform high-precision dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), micrometers, calipers, height gages, dial indicators, bore gages, and fixed gages,
- Operate CMMs and assist with creating, editing, or maintaining Zeiss Calypso programs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, customer specifications, and inspection requirements.
- Verify critical dimensions, tolerances, and geometric characteristics of precision machined components.
- Approve or reject incoming materials, in-process work, and finished products based on specification requirements.
- Calibrate, maintain, and verify inspection equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and traceability.
- Complete inspection documentation and maintain accurate electronic quality records.
- Communicate inspection results and dimensional concerns with machinists, project managers, and other team members to resolve nonconformances.
- Assist in troubleshooting dimensional, measurement, and inspection-related issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection methods, measurement processes, and quality.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support the company’s quality policy through compliance with quality management system requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
Competencies:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical degree in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related field preferred
- Two years of experience inspecting precision machined components in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) or Zeiss Calypso software preferred
- Experience using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gages, dial indicators, bore gages, and fixed gages.
- Strong math, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
