JOB
Coordinate with the owners of commercial or industrial and residential buildings or related structures to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Work with the general public, developers, contractors and attorneys to resolve issues related to code compliance. Investigate, prepare and present cases to City Council, as well as act as a non-attorney prosecutor in a court of competent jurisdiction. Act as witness in attorney prosecuted building code violation cases and civil litigation cases.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Receive, log, research, track and respond to complaints and inquiries regarding building technical code and administrative code compliance for existing and new commercial and residential buildings or related structures.

Research permit and property history and assess complaint cases through site inspections and communication and discussions of compliance options with owners, contractors, complainants and/or witnesses.

Utilize administrative and criminal processes as needed to pursue building technical code and administrative code compliance; Issue appropriate notices on structures which do not comply with applicable codes, regulations and ordinances.

Upon exhaustion of administrative process, prepare criminal cases for trial including discovery preparation and delivery and also preparation of criminal complaints.

File criminal complaints in court of competent jurisdiction.

Prosecute non-attorney code violation criminal cases.

Provide factual court and/or City Council testimony.

Coordinate and cooperate with the City Attorney and his/her designees.

Act as liaison between the Building Safety Division and the State of New Mexico Construction Industries Division.

Act as liaison between the Building Safety Division and Code Enforcement.

Create and maintain various inspection records and files.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Environmental:
Office and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, electrical energy, moving objects/vehicles, inclement weather conditions; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; work or inspect underground; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; work around heavy construction equipment.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate or light lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; climbing with both legs and arms; operating motorized equipment.
