ASSISTANT COACH/HEAD JV MEN’S SOCCER COACH
PART-TIME POSITION
JOB DUTIES
The Assistant Coach/Head JV Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of an
intercollegiate athletic program at Otero College, including all aspects of the Junior Varsity program. This
includes scheduling, practice planning, student-athlete development, coaching, academic monitoring and
support, athlete recruitment, program operations, community engagement, and team travel. The Assistant
Coach plays a critical role in creating a positive, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-
athletes and represents the college in both athletic and community settings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team & Athlete Support
1. Assist with the recruitment and recommendation of prospective student-athletes.
2. Plan and conduct practices 4–5 days per week for the Junior Varsity team, emphasizing skill development, team
strategy, and personal growth.
3. Contribute to Varsity practices, competitions, and skill instruction, including individual athlete development.
4. Support athletes in physical conditioning, injury prevention, and health awareness.
5. Help supervise practices, film sessions, and scheduled training activities.
6. Serve as acting Head Coach during games, practices, or events in the absence of the Head Coach, when authorized
by the Athletic Director.
7. Assist in monitoring academic progress of student-athletes; help manage study tables and tutor coordination.
8. Promote athlete accountability in attendance, academic integrity, and personal conduct.
Program Operations & Logistics
1. Support the planning and coordination of team travel, lodging, and meals for up to 20 Junior Varsity games.
2. Coordinate with the varsity coaching staff to align systems, terminology, and culture.
3. Assist in the setup and management of all home competitions and practice facilities.
4. Help track and manage equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
5. Collaborate with the Head Coach on data collection, statistics, scouting reports, and player evaluations.
6. Aid in planning and leading individual and team camps, clinics, or special events hosted by the college.
7. Assist with public relations efforts, including submitting press releases, athlete highlights, and program updates to
the college’s marketing or PR department.
College & Community Engagement
1. Foster positive relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and local stakeholders.
2. Represent the athletic program and college at community events and fundraising activities.
3. Build and maintain recruiting relationships with area high schools, clubs, and relevant organizations.
