Job Summary
The Custom Fabrication Fitter is responsible for reading fabrication drawings and independently laying out, fitting and assembling structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stainless steel, aluminum and custom fabricated products. This position is focused on precision fit-up, layout and fabrication. The ideal candidate is a skilled fitter who can take a set of shop drawings and produce accurate assemblies ready for final welding.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints and fabrication details
- Layout, measure, fit and assemble structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stainless steel, aluminum and custom fabricated components
- Verify dimensions, squareness, elevations and fit-up to ensure assemblies meet company quality standards
- Perform tack welds as required to secure assemblies for final welding
- Prepare materials through grinding, beveling, cleaning, and edge preparation
- Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts and rigging equipment safely
- Use layout and fabrication tools including tape measures, squares, levels, clamps, grinders and measuring equipment
- Identify fabrication conflicts and resolve fit-up issues before final welding
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area
- Work closely with welders, shop personnel and supervisors to deliver quality fabrications on schedule
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of fitting or fabrication experience
- Strong blueprint reading and layout skills
- Experience fitting structural steel, stairs, railings, platforms, embeds, miscellaneous metals and custom fabrications
- Basic welding skills for tack welding only
- Experience with stainless steel and aluminum fabrication is a plus
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and produce quality work

Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
