JOB DESCRIPTION
The Instructional Supports Specialist will serve as a member of the Instructional Supports team. This team supports Canyons School District schools in implementing the District Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Framework. Specialists are instructional leaders responsible for creating evidence-based instructional, curriculum, and assessment resources that intentionally integrate digital teaching and learning practices; designing effective language scaffolds for multi-lingual learners; providing high quality, personalized professional learning to teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators; and coaching targeted areas of improvement. Additionally, Instructional Support Specialists work collaboratively with other district departments, school districts, the Utah State Board of Education, institutes of higher education, and community partners. Each specialist works with specific content areas and/or programs. This position will specifically support K-12 Health and Physical Education programs and courses, and systems for delivering effective instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates high standard of professional, legal and ethical conduct (CTESS standard)
- Design and select instructional resources, curriculum materials, and content area technology tools that support educators in delivering equitable, high quality instruction based in Utah State Standards
- Provide expertise, training, modeling, co-teaching, and support to teachers in implementing standards based instruction, adopted curriculum, and assessment in assigned content areas and programs
- Cultivate a supportive coaching culture that encourages educators and leaders to achieve a shared vision and individual goals
- Help educators to create effective assessments that provide timely feedback and support personalized learning
- Design professional learning based on needs assessments and frameworks for working with adults to support their learning needs
- Build the capacity of educators, leaders and instructional teams to put the system supports into practice by facilitating active learning and providing meaningful feedback
- Evaluate impact of professional learning and continually make improvements in order to meet districtwide vision for high-impact teaching and learning
- Assist educators and leaders in securely collecting and analyzing student data
- Compile, synthesize, interpret, and display aggregate and disaggregate data sets to support District level decision making
- Support educators to interpret implementation and performance data to inform their decisions and support individual student learning
- Design content-specific scaffolds that support diverse learners in Tier 1 instruction and supplemental interventions
- Collaborate with other district departments to ensure alignment of services to schools
- Serve as a liaison between CSD, other local districts, universities, and the Utah State Board of Education, as assigned
- Communicate consistently and courteously with CSD stakeholders, including parents
- Relentless commitment to personal growth and development through participation in professional learning and other opportunities to develop and refine instruction and coaching skills
- Predictable and reliable attendance
During times of state or district emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities. e.g. Performs general cleaning and sanitizing of work areas, provides remote assistance to students and staff, and any other reasonable duty as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal backgrounds check
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- A minimum of five years’ experience teaching, preferably in Health or Physical Education
- Valid Utah teaching license; endorsement in Health or Physical Education preferred
- Completion of competency-based endorsements in coaching, education technology, and ESL required within first three years of employment
- Demonstrated expertise in utilization of effective teaching strategies required
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology and instructional media tools
- Demonstrated expertise in data based decision making at multiple levels including individual, small group, class, grade and school wide
- Successful experience coaching other professionals preferred
- Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written
- Demonstrated skill in teaching and facilitating adult learners
- Flexible and willing to adapt to changes
- Willingness to continually learn new information and skill related to student learning and achievement including content areas that may be outside of current skill set
- Ability to work collaboratively and individually on assigned tasks
- Willingness to improve facilitation and leadership skills, and take feedback from teammates, supervisor, school administrators, and mentor
NOTE: The Administration reserves the right to require specific training for this position. However, depending upon the type and quality of prior work experience and availability of formal training programs, some exchanges can be made between training and experience.

- Possesses the physical, mental, and emotional stability to work under stressful conditions, including but not limited to: deadlines, contract requirements, inspection requirements, interaction with critical personnel, interaction with parents and community members, and consistent changes in the education profession.
