GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as an extension of the supervisor and is responsible for operating boilers when needed or tasked by the supervisor. Checks for the proper burning of bagasse and makes rounds ensuring boiler operators and Boiler Operator Assistant are properly performing their assigned work duties. Cross-train employees in the department in all aspects of Boiler operations, including but not limited to preventative observations of water levels, gas consumption, and temperatures of boilers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Intermittently supervises a team of (5) direct reports to include: Boiler Operator, Boiler Operator Assistant, Mechanic 1C, Water Treatment Attendant and Bagasse Equipment Operator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates boilers and checks for the proper burning of bagasse.
- Responsibilities also include but are not limited to: checking boiler-related equipment, conveyors/feeders, water columns, fuel oil levels/temperatures, checks soot blowers, pinhole grates, as well as cleaning & checks, burners, and feedwater pumps.
- Proper maintenance and operation of boilers and ancillary equipment, to include regular reviews of boiler set-ups, and monitoring of boiler and turbine performance.
- Monitor boiler performance on a daily basis.
- Recommend combustion control operational changes to maximize plant efficiency.
- Perform all boiler internal inspections after lock-out and cleaning and lead all boiler compliance testing.
- Provide periodic on-call coverage for emergency responses and may occasionally be required to provide management coverage when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have intermediate mechanical aptitude.

Able to safely operate a forklift, use various hand and power tools, drill press, measuring tape and level.

Effective communication skills are required and must understand mechanical systems as well as the ability to read schematics and diagrams.
- Must be able to receive and carry-out verbal instructions, operate various types of equipment including weld machines, cutting torches and be able to read/interpret diagrams, sketches, blueprints and manuals.

Must have basic computer skills and intermediate welding and cutting skills.

Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.
LICENSES REQUIRED: Regular Class “E” Driver’s license.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma (or GED), with related Journeyman-level skills and five (5) to eight (8) years of previous related experience in steam and gas-powered Boiler-Room Operations at an industrial facility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in all positions (overhead, kneeling, reaching, crawling & working in small workspaces) & be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
