Summary:
The Dump Truck Driver is responsible to operate commercial vehicle over public and private roadways to transport asphalt, earth, aggregates and other materials from one location to another.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary function is to drive Dump Truck for shift operations as directed.
- Prior to daily start of work, perform the following safety inspection:
- Perform Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) walk-around inspection of the physical condition of Truck for damage, wear or any defect that may affect productivity and/or safety; record results and submit checklist to supervisor.
- Check/maintain all fuel, oil, water and coolant levels, belts, drive components, alarms, lights and gauges.
- Inspect tire and tire pressure.
- Report to asphalt plant for loading of material; Follow instructions of Plant Operator and complete all paperwork in compliance with established Company procedures
- Transport load over required route to proper destination, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- On arrival at job site, confirm offloading plan with Supervisor, and move to waiting area as directed
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at a rating of “A” with a driving record that meets Company standards.
- Minimum 2 yrs. of commercial driving experience in construction companies.
- Sufficient mechanical/equipment knowledge to identify minor problems.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; communicate with supervisors, co-workers and customers.
- Demonstrated pattern of dependability, self-starter traits and responsible work practices.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive, stand, sit, kneel, walk, talk, see, hear, push, pull, climb, bend and stoop. The employee frequently is required to drive, and sit (for up to 8 eight hours), stand, walk (occasionally on rough terrain/in varying weather conditions), climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for driving, distance sight and to read diagrams, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment. Shift: Monday through Friday, 6:00 pm to 4:00 am (10-hour shifts)
