Position Description: The Music Department employee serves as a student assistant primarily for the Vocal and Instrumental Music Department. Duties will include maintaining the music libraries, typically in the late afternoon. Occasional evening hours required. Note: Employment is limited to 20 hours per week during the academic year.
In addition, the student will be required to provide assistance to the department with accompanying duties, including but not limited to rehearsals with the concert and community choir, hilltop singers, Jazz band, student recitals and other events, as the Director of Accompaniment sees fit. The ideal candidate will also provide tutoring services to other music major students, particularly out of the piano proficiency class sequence. These tutoring sessions will be under the supervision of the Instructor of Keyboard and Director of Accompaniment. Position Responsibilities: 20.00% - Tutoring students for Class Piano sequence assignments and practice sessions.
20.00% - Assisting with accompanying duties of the Music Department 10.00% - Assisting other members of the Music Department Staff as requested. 20.00% - Assisting with preparations for concerts and rehearsals. These duties may include moving and setting up equipment, preparing publicity and concert programs as directed. 5.00% - Typing worksheets, schedules and documents as directed by the instructor.
20.00% - Complete all duties necessary to maintain an organized piano, choral, and instrumental library. These duties may include typing, labeling, cataloging and filing. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned Expectations: Interpersonal skills, computer knowledge, customer service skills Understanding of maintaining confidentiality Ability to multitask and assist in other departments Perform the piano at an early-intermediate level. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Other Skills - Knowledge of music genres and traditional library filing systems.
Experience - Knowledge of Excel and Word Programs Education - Enrolled in applicable Barton credit hours during the fall and spring semesters Physical Requirements: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stopping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computer printers or record boxes. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Job requires average agility and dexterity. Wages/Other: Wages for this position are $9.00 per hour.
