Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist, Front Desk Scheduler in an outpatient specialty or primary care healthcare setting
- Excellent communication and customer service skills

Minimum of a High School diploma/ GED
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a computer CRT, and/or demonstrated willingness to learn computer skills
Knowledge and understanding of third party insurance carrier regulations and billing procedures, including managed care plans and referral procedures/requirements
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with staff, physicians, Howard County General Hospital departments, patients, families and outside agencies in such a manner as to gain their confidence and secure their cooperation and respect
High level of patience, tolerance, and tact to deal effectively with people and time pressures
Professional demeanor, attitude and appearance
Initiative and assertiveness in dealing with problems. Flexibility and willingness to being cross trained with other office tasks as necessary.
Responsibilities
Full Time (40 hours), day shift, no weekends.
Excellent customer relations skills in dealing with patients, families, other physicians' offices, insurance carriers, co-workers, etc.
As the Medical Receptionist at our Neurology practice, you will play a significant role in facilitating a positive patient experience. In many ways you will be the face of our practice and the initial point of contact. Patients will often first call and speak to you and your representation of the practice will help patients see the office, staff and providers in a positive light. This clinic will especially focus on patients with weakness, muscle loss, balance problems and numbness. We will see highly complex neurological disorders with high care needs requiring collaborative care and common low acuity disorders.
Administrative, Scheduling and Check-In/Out Tasks:
Assist in the coordination of patient scheduling and appointment reminders
Requesting records from outside providers and faxing records to referring providers
Administer new patient forms at check-in
Handle administrative duties as needed, patient eligibility verifications prior to appointments and at check-in
Collect patient co-payment at check-in
Check-out patients and schedule follow-up appointments
Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and standards, including HIPAA
Manage inventory levels of medical supplies and equipment
Stay updated on industry trends and regulations and implement necessary changes
Oversee the onboarding and training of new medical receptionists
Develop and update training materials and protocols
Clinical Support:
Reviews and assistance with preparation for scheduled patient visits
Ensure all patient records are accurately documented in our electronic medical record system (e.g., Athena Health)
Documents activities in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR)
Contact insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization
Quality Assurance:
Implement and adhere to best practices and safety protocols
Interact with patients in a compassionate and professional manner
Address patient inquiries and concerns, providing excellent customer service
Supports the clinical care team, assuring optimal best-practice patient flow; manages patient volume
Conducts surveillance for transitions of care, urgent/emergent care, or follow-up tasks
Participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety
Attend training for safety, infection control, etc.
Ensures ongoing compliance by maintaining and auditing temperature logs, ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired, checking and maintaining emergency equipment, area free of clutter, and other related tasks
Maintain and organize medical equipment and supplies
Updates appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manages drug/ medical supply inventories

Shift Full Time (40 hours), day shift, no weekends Education: Minimum of a high school degree. Vocational training in medical receptionist. Required Work Experience: One to two years experience in healthcare/medical practice preferred. Knowledge/Skills: Excellent customer relations skills in healthcare setting which involves communication with patients, families, other physicians' offices, insurance carriers, co-workers, etc. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a computer and electronic medical record system (Athena Health), and/or demonstrated willingness to learn computer skills. Knowledge of medical terminology to assist in completion of job duties desirable. Ability to operate a keyboard and data entry skills. Knowledge and understanding of third party insurance carrier regulations and billing procedures, including managed care plans and referral procedures/requirements. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families and outside agencies High level of patience, tolerance, and tact to deal effectively with people and time pressures.
