Civil Engineer (Land Development)
Up to $130,000 | Full-Time | Massachusetts

Due to continued growth and a strong backlog of work extending through the end of 2027, we are seeking a Civil Engineer with approximately 6–10 years of experience to join our collaborative team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects from initial planning and permitting through construction while continuing to develop your technical expertise and project leadership skills.

What You'll DoCivil Engineering Design
- Prepare and review engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
- Design grading, drainage, stormwater management systems, utility infrastructure, roadways, parking facilities, and site development improvements.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, or similar software.
- Develop erosion and sedimentation control plans in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.
- Review engineering plans and technical documents to ensure quality and accuracy.
Project Management
- Manage multiple projects while maintaining schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
- Prepare project scopes, proposals, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Identify project challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
Permitting & Regulatory Coordination
Prepare and coordinate permitting packages with agencies including:
- MassDEP
- MassDOT
- Conservation Commissions
- Planning Boards
- Zoning Boards of Appeal
- Municipal Departments of Public Works
Ensure compliance with:
- Massachusetts Stormwater Standards
- Wetlands Protection Act
- Municipal subdivision regulations
- Local zoning requirements
- NPDES requirements and environmental regulations
Construction Support
- Conduct site visits and construction observations.
- Review RFIs, shop drawings, contractor submittals, and change orders.
- Provide engineering support during construction and assist in resolving field issues.
- Prepare field reports and monitor project progress.
Leadership
- Mentor junior engineers and designers.
- Participate in QA/QC reviews.
- Support proposal development and client presentations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and public agencies.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- 6–10 years of professional civil engineering experience.
- FE or EIT certification (Massachusetts or transferable).
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Land Development
- Civil Site Design
- Municipal Infrastructure
- Transportation Projects
- Strong knowledge of Massachusetts permitting processes and regulations.
- Experience using:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- HydroCAD
- HEC-RAS (or similar hydraulic modeling software)
- Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites throughout Massachusetts.
Preferred
- Massachusetts Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience working with Massachusetts municipalities and regulatory agencies.
- Familiarity with MassDOT Project Development & Design Guide standards.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- GIS experience is a plus.
