We are seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment for our students, staff, and community. This position combines light groundskeeping duties with indoor cleaning and sanitation to ensure our facilities remain in top condition.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Part-Time / Night Hours)
Primary Focus Areas: District Office, Auxiliary Weight Room, and assigned facilities

- Clean and sanitize offices, common areas, and the Cape Henlopen High School Annex Weight Room (and future athletic pole building).

Vacuum carpets, sweep, and mop VCT flooring.

Empty trash and properly dispose of waste materials.

Maintain a clean, organized custodial closet and manage inventory/supply replenishment in coordination with the Chief Custodian.

Perform specialized floor care (experience stripping and waxing floors preferred).

Respond promptly to emergency cleanup requests as needed.
- Maintain District Office grounds, including weed control around the perimeter, clearing stairwell drains, trimming shrubbery, and general landscape upkeep.

Ensure walkways, driveways, and parking areas are safe and clear; perform snow removal on the District Office sidewalk and grounds during winter months.

Perform routine care on floors, walls, doors, windows, furniture, and fixtures.

Inspect, operate, and maintain equipment safely (e.g., floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, extractors, lawn equipment, snow removal gear).

Assist with loading and unloading supplies and equipment.

Report any facility damage or missing items directly to the Chief Custodian.
- Safety & Compliance: Familiarity with district policies, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.

Problem-Solving & Task Management: Ability to assess cleaning/maintenance needs, manage time effectively, and solve practical problems on the job.

Communication & Collaboration: Strong oral and written comprehension; ability to receive guidance, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively with staff, students, and the community.

Independence: Self-motivated with the ability to work independently during evening hours.

Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and comfort reading/interpreting manuals, safety rules, and operating instructions.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: 1 year of related grounds or custodial experience preferred (no specialized expertise required; willing to train).

Licensure: Valid state driver's license (travel between assigned local sites during shifts is required).

Pre-Employment Screening: Successful background check, drug test, and fingerprinting required.
- Physical Activity: Requires continuous moderate effort, including frequent climbing, crawling, kneeling, and reaching.

Lifting Requirements: Frequently carry/move objects over 25 lbs; occasionally move objects up to 50 lbs.

Environment: Works both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions (e.g., winter snow removal).
