American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and active TNCC certification.

Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds, divided into pods (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU); travelers would not float to the CVICU side without relevant experience
-
Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma — with a heavy trauma population

Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required; fresh open-heart cases are generally reserved for permanent staff

Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3

Charting system is Epic (required); facility also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
-
12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week

Every-other-weekend rotation (not guaranteed)

No on-call responsibilities

Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Telemetry, at a 1:4 ratio

Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) license or Compact RN license required
-
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)

Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; 2 years is most preferred
-
Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) and significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered with management approval
-
Epic EMR experience required

Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
-
Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry monitoring
-
Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
-
At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
-
Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
-
DOB and SSN required for consideration

Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights

Orientation includes a hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts

No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August each year); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise

May be expected to precept nursing students
