Overview
We are looking for a Virtual CIO (vCIO) to own the strategic relationship with our clients. This role is not support, not project delivery, and not sales. It is accountable for aligning technology with business outcomes, driving standardization, and expanding client value over time.
If you want to “help users,” this isn’t the role. If you want to influence how businesses operate through technology, it is.
Core Responsibilities
Client Strategy & Ownership
- Act as the primary strategic advisor for assigned clients
- Build and maintain 1–3 year IT roadmaps tied to business goals
- Lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with clear outcomes and direction
- Translate technical issues into business risk and financial impact
Account Growth & Retention
- Identify gaps in client environments and drive alignment to standards
- Recommend improvements across security, infrastructure, and operations
- Own client satisfaction, retention, and expansion of MRR
- Collaborate with sales on upsell opportunities (you don’t close, but you drive the why)
Standards Enforcement
- Push clients toward full standardization (stack, process, security)
- Say no when needed. This role requires backbone.
- Ensure clients adopt best practices, not preferences
Internal Alignment
- Work with Service, Projects, and Security teams to execute roadmap initiatives
- Ensure projects are properly scoped, prioritized, and tied to strategy
- Eliminate disconnect between what was sold, what is supported, and what is needed
Business Insight
- Understand each client’s: Revenue model, Risk profile, Compliance requirements, Growth plans
- Use that context to guide all recommendations
Requirements
- 5–10+ years in IT (MSP experience strongly preferred)
- Proven ability to communicate with executives and business owners
- Strong understanding of: IT infrastructure (networks, endpoints, cloud), Cybersecurity frameworks and risk management, Microsoft 365 / Azure environments
- Experience leading client-facing strategic conversations
- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts into business terms

- Not a helpdesk escalation point
- Not a project engineer
- Not an account manager who just “checks in”
- Not order taking
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
