General Summary
A Crew Lead/ Person Leading Work (PLW) oversees the production and safety of a group of employees which may include but not limited to a Welder, Welder’s Helper, Crane Operator and Swamper.
Essential Job Functions
1. Regular and reliable attendance.
2. Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.
3. Responsible for Daily Shift validations.
4. Must possess a current and valid Driver License with clean driving record.
5. Preform and fill out Pre-Trip vehicle inspection before leaving the yard and check all fluids/tires/lights/etc. as listed on Pre-Trip Form.
6. Gather appropriate job permits from all crew members for each scheduled job and ensure that they have the correct information.
7. Follow and/or complete the Detailed Daily Work Plan (DDWP) and ensure crew actively participates, knows and follows each procedure.
8. Ensure the crew has the appropriate equipment, tools and supplies to complete the assigned task and have knowledge of all equipment.
9. Perform monthly tool audit of all crew members and ensure compliance of equipment (vehicle registration/ fire extinguisher).
10. Be able to identify issues ahead of time to properly mitigate them.
11. Must complete specific KSI and Customer required Training.
12. Perform atmospheric testing on job site to ensure safe conditions exist.
13. Understand bolt-up and torquing procedures.
14. Understand all procedures, permitting and safe conditions required to perform Hot Work activities.
15. Coach and mentor fellow crew members in all safety processes.
16. Develop a general knowledge of KSI PPM-SOPs and frequently refer to the SOP Manual.
17. Follow all KSI and Customer policies and procedures.
18. Perform all physical and mental requirements listed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
- Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of Lock Out/ Tag Out process
- Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
- Knowledge on Microsoft Office Products
- Ability to complete tasks such as Job Site Evacuation, Trenching, Line Finding, Dig Alerts, Energy Control, etc
- Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA)
- Ability to complete safety required training
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to recognize and use hand and power tools including pipe benders
- Ability to demonstrate basic construction safety rules
- Ability to work in confined spaces for long periods at a time
- Knowledge of pipe sizes and fitting as well as thickness of material required
Education and Experience
Have 1-2 years of industry experience along with knowledge of tools.
Working Conditions: The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.
Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8’s and 4-10’s. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
