Health & Safety Manager
The Health and Safety Manager provide leadership and oversight of the company’s safety, health, environmental, and regulatory compliance programs to eliminate or significantly reduce work-related injuries, illnesses, and incidents while maintaining full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Health & Safety required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and make decisions independently
Roles & Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Program Management
- Lead and manage the company’s safety management system to promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
- Serve as the primary safety resource for supervisors and employees, providing guidance for the safe performance of tasks through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Line Instructions (LIs), and Non-Routine Line Instructions (NLIs).
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices through regular communication, coaching, and employee engagement.
- Implement and manage the Behavior-Based Safety Program through Loss Prevention Systems (LPS) and associated safety tools.
- Educate employees on hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.
Incident Investigation & Risk Management
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-miss events to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain communication and coordination with medical providers, insurance claim representatives, law enforcement, and customers when incidents occur.
- Track and analyze incident trends to identify opportunities for safety improvement.
Regulatory Compliance & Auditing
- Ensure company-wide compliance with regulations and standards established by:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration / DOT
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Oversee safety audits, inspections, and corrective action programs.
- Maintain OSHA logs and required documentation for recordable injuries and illnesses.
Safety Performance Reporting & Client Relations
- Provide safety performance data and documentation to major clients and contractors
- Track and report key safety metrics such as:
- TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate)
- LWDCR (Lost Workday Case Rate)
- EMR (Experience Modification Rate)
Chemical & Environmental Safety Management
- Manage chemical safety programs including chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and regulatory compliance for all hazardous materials.
FMCSA & DOT Compliance
- Administer company drug and alcohol testing programs including pre-employment testing.
- Coordinate DOT random testing, post-accident testing, and reasonable suspicion testing.
- Oversee the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) Program and provide monthly reporting updates.
- Monitor and maintain CDL driver licensing and medical certification compliance.
Human Resources & Employee Relations Support
- Assist Human Resources with employment-related compliance matters including:
- Employment verification requests
- Administration and compliance of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
- Investigation and resolution of employee complaints including harassment or workplace concerns
- Provide guidance to management on disciplinary actions and workplace policy enforcement.
Training & Employee Development
- Conduct comprehensive new hire safety orientation covering company policies, employment manual, and safety manual.
- Deliver ongoing safety training and awareness programs for employees and supervisors.
Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
