The Lorge School serves a population of learning and emotionally disabled students age 5-21. We are seeking to fill a high school position for the school year beginning this September 2026.
Job responsibilities include:
-Assessing students' skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans.
-Teach all subjects required by the New York State Curriculum. Prepare unit/lesson plans to reflect the subjects.
-Prepare innovative educational materials to enhance learning and improve motivation.
-Develop IEP reports for each student.
-Plan, organize and assign activities that are specific to each student's abilities.
-Explicitly design instruction to meet student needs.
-Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups and one-on-one.
-Prepare students for the GED exam.
-Assess student performance and track progress.
-Meet with the CSE in conjunction with the Lorge interdisciplinary teams to update IEPs to reflect student progress and goals.
-Discuss student progress with parents, teacher, and the Lorge interdisciplinary team.
-Model appropriate teaching strategies and interventions for group/individual instruction.
-Supervise, collaborate and mentor Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Student Aides to provide for the maximum benefits to students.
-Incorporate diversity/multicultural awareness into the classroom curriculum.
-Participate in school trips and school-wide activities.
-Maintain a welcoming classroom environment with evidence of student progress.
-Establish clear in-class behavior/rules.
-Attend parent/teacher conferences.
Physical Requirements:
-Ability to climb up to five flights of stairs multiple times each day.
-Ability to participate in school trips requiring extensive walking and accessing public transportation.

Pay: $79,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
