Job Summary
Mine Service Inc. is seeking a Junior Estimator to support the estimating and preconstruction process for civil construction projects, including sitework, earthwork, concrete, and underground utilities. The Junior Estimator will assist with reviewing project plans and specifications, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, obtaining and analyzing subcontractor and supplier pricing, developing cost estimates, and preparing competitive bids.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of civil construction practices, the ability to read and interpret construction plans, excellent attention to detail, and experience with estimating and takeoff software. Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, AutoCAD, and AGTEK GradeWork is highly preferred. This position provides an opportunity to develop into a full Estimator capable of independently preparing complete civil construction bids.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3–5 years of experience in civil construction, estimating, project engineering, field engineering, or a related construction role
- Preferred Construction-related degree, technical degree, or equivalent field experience
- Experience working for a heavy civil, site development, utility, concrete, or general civil contractor
- Experience with production-based estimating and construction equipment costs

Responsibilities
- Perform construction quantity takeoffs
- Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine project scope and material requirements
- Dealing with conflict and being able to solve it quickly
- Estimating civil sitework, earthwork, concrete, and underground utilities for bid prepration
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates by analyzing labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor quotes
- Utilizing software such as HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK GradeWork, AutoCAD for Earthwork and grading analysis and Cost analysis
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams through negotiation to secure favorable terms and clarify project details
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously by maintaining accurate records of estimates, revisions, and project documentation
- Develops and analyzes production rates to support accurate estimating and project planning
- Solicits and coordinates subcontractor and supplier pricing to support competitive and accurate estimates
- Strong independent and collaborative work skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds throughout shift
- Frequent ability to sit, climb, reach, and bend throughout shift
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors environments, with moderate noise levels
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to review drawings and documents for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally visit active construction sites for project familiarization / pre-bid site visits
- Ability to walk construction sites and navigate uneven terrain when required
- Ability to communicate effectively in an office and construction-site environment
Position Type, Travel and Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are determined by job requirements. Weekend work and working long hours will be required when necessary.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
