Litigation Paralegal / Legal Assistant
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Our established two-attorney law firm is seeking a highly organized and dependable Litigation Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our team. This position primarily supports our homeowners' association, real estate, and debt collection practice, managing files from pre-suit demand and liens through litigation and, when necessary, judicial foreclosure sales.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, manage a high-volume caseload, communicate professionally with clients and opposing parties, and maintain exceptional attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Manage case files from initial demand through final resolution
- Calendar deadlines, hearings, and other critical dates
- Draft legal documents, including summonses, complaints, affidavits, motions, and other pleadings
- Coordinate service of process
- Prepare and organize court filings
- Maintain electronic and physical client files
- Scan, save, and organize incoming documents
- Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status
- Communicate professionally with debtors, attorneys, courts, and process servers
- Establish and monitor payment plans
- Prepare files for hearings and, when applicable, foreclosure sales before the Master-in-Equity
- Monitor deadlines to ensure timely prosecution of cases
- Assist attorneys with other litigation and probate matters as needed
- Perform other administrative and legal support duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous law firm experience required
- Prior litigation or collections experience strongly preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage a high-volume caseload
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Professional demeanor and excellent client service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word required
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic court filing systems is a plus

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
