Job Title: IT Systems Engineer

Summary:
The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining IT systems within the organization. This role ensures systems run smoothly, securely, and efficiently, supporting uninterrupted business operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills to assist end-users effectively. In addition to core system engineering responsibilities, this role requires the ability to provide field service, conduct on-site installations, and coordinate project implementation tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Support
· System Monitoring: Continuously monitor IT systems to ensure optimal performance, prevent downtime, manage disaster recovery efforts, and address critical vulnerabilities (CVEs).
· Troubleshooting: Provide prompt support to end-users, identify and resolve hardware and software issues, and educate users in a positive manner. Diagnose problems using event logs and replace faulty equipment or cabling.
· Updates and Upgrades: Perform updates and upgrades to hardware and software, including testing before rollout, updating systems during off-peak hours, and developing a robust SCCM strategy.
Security Management
· Data Protection: Implement measures to secure data from unauthorized access, theft, and loss. Document changes in Active Directory, file systems, and O365 environments.
· Network Security: Configure security tools such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems, conduct regular security audits, and monitor systems for unauthorized changes or potential threats.
Project Management
· Planning and Execution: Assist management in planning and executing IT projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
· Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, procedures, and project reports. Support the development and management of the Help Desk environment.
Field Service & Project Installation
· On-Site Installation: Travel to various locations (data centers, branch offices, client sites) for physical hardware installation, network setup, and system configurations.
· Equipment Setup & Cabling: Manage cabling, rack installations, and system wiring to ensure proper connectivity and adherence to organizational standards.
· System Deployment & Testing: Perform post-installation testing, quality checks, and validation to confirm that newly deployed systems meet performance and security requirements.
· Environmental Readiness: Coordinate with facilities and operations teams to ensure site readiness.
· User Training & Handover: Provide hands-on training or guidance to local personnel on system use, best practices, and basic troubleshooting after installations.
· Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Work alongside third-party vendors or contractors to ensure timely hardware delivery, project milestones, and compliance with site safety procedures.
Implementation
· Software Installation and Configuration: Install and configure software applications across various devices (laptops, desktops, phones, tablets) and operating systems, ensuring seamless integration.
· Hardware Setup: Manage the setup and configuration of hardware, including servers, workstations, cameras, networking equipment, and firewalls. Implement new environments and reimage old devices as needed.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science with 3-5 years field experience
(or 7 plus years of field experience)
· Previous work experience in the aggregate, asphalt, paving, & ready-mix industry (preferred)
· Proficiency in system architecture, software/hardware configuration, and network security.
· Strong knowledge of Active Directory, O365, SCCM, XDR solutions, and disaster recovery processes.
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
· Willingness to travel for on-site installations and field service assignments.
· Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move equipment (servers, network appliances, etc.) as needed.
