Under the leadership of Attorney General Raúl Torrez, the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) serves as the chief legal authority for the state of New Mexico. The NMDOJ works to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, and the rights of all citizens are protected.
The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit is part of a multi-agency task force with a mission to locate, track, and capture internet child sexual predators and child pornographers.
As the central command for the ICAC Task Force in New Mexico, the Unit receives and triages all Cyber Tips and Reports made by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The Unit has a fully equipped computer lab specifically designed to provide forensic analysis to law enforcement agencies working ICAC cases and special criminal investigations.
In addition, the ICAC Unit is deeply invested in community engagement, and has provided internet crime prevention training to citizens and youth at community meetings, schools, and colleges throughout the state.

The Digital Forensic Examiner for the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) position exists to extract, analyze, and preserve digital evidence from computers, mobile devices, network logs, and cloud storage media seized during criminal investigations. The Digital Forensic Examiner will bridge the gap between high-tech criminal tactics and successful prosecution. This position will also provide advanced technical expertise to combat online child exploitation statewide. Additionally, the role standardizes digital evidence collection, ensuring that digital evidence is collected following strict legal guidelines.
How does it get done?
The core responsibilities of this position center on the comprehensive forensic lifecycle of digital evidence. The Digital Forensic Examiner conducts highly technical extractions of deleted, encrypted, or hidden data from electronic devices while maintaining strict chain of custody requirements. Upon recovering files, chats, and metadata, the examiner meticulously categorizes illicit content and compiles exhaustive, court-ready forensic reports detailing their findings. Beyond this, the examiner regularly provides expert witness testimony in state and federal courts to explain technical evidence. Furthermore, this role involves providing on-scene technical assistance during search warrants and delivering digital forensics training to local law enforcement partners.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and six (6) years of experience in IT security and compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A certificate in IT security/forensics (e.g. CISSP, CEH, CCFP, CCSP, HCISPP, SSCP) or regulated compliance (e.g. PCIP, ASV, ISA, QSA) can be used to substitute one (1) year of experience.
Employment Requirements
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico; or must obtain a Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Incumbent must submit to and pass an extensive background investigation and drug test.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive use of computer and phone usage. Working in a law enforcement environment, potential statewide travel, exposure to law enforcement investigations to include extensive exposure to graphic photos and videos in confined workspace. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
