Smashing Dishes, the newest brand from Tony Caters, has a terrific opening for an On-Call Event Chef!
The Event Chef is the primary responsible individual preparing/finishing food at catered events, bearing primary responsibility for taste, presentation and food safety. This role will work collaboratively with the Event Lead (and their team) who executes Front of House service, and for large events will often have a support staff of Line Event Cooks aiding in the field kitchen. The Event Chef will drive the food and supplies to events in company vehicles. Grace, professionalism, poise, artistry, time, and spatial awareness are key traits for success in this role.
Pay rate is $30.00/hour. Must be available to work on weekends.

Founded in 2009, Tony Caters is a dynamic, well-regarded off-site catering company that produces events in the South Bay and all around the greater Bay Area. We also have two additional cafes located inside the Tech Interactive Museum in downtown San Jose and at the Winchester Mystery House.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITES
- Collaborate with Front of House Event Lead (and company leadership) to ensure smooth event experience for guests and staff
- Unless otherwise assigned or scheduled, you are the first and last person in the field kitchen at those events, and are responsible for set-up and take-down of equipment
- Familiarity with the event’s menu (food and drink), presentation and service
- Field training of any staff who aren’t familiar with the food (or style of what’s) being served
- Direct supervision and leadership of your Back of House staff, which includes scheduling breaks/meals, ensuring adherence to event timeline, and ensuring their dress/attire (uniform appearance)
- Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and any applicable laws
- Day-of employee training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising day of event performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems
REQUIREMENTS
- Friendly and upbeat attitude is a must!
- Previous experience as Event Chef required
- Previous catering experience
- Fluency in English/Spanish is a plus
- Responsible, accountable and task-oriented
- Must be able to work continuously while standing for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift, pull and push materials/products to complete assigned job tasks
- Qualified candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of this position satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation
