Barkley’s Pets is growing, and we’re looking for dependable, dog-loving people who want more than an occasional gig.
This is a structured, part-time W-2 dog walking position with consistent weekly routes, paid training, ongoing support, and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with the dogs and families you care for.
Our walkers become a trusted part of each pet’s routine. You’ll spend your shifts outdoors, moving between client homes, following detailed care instructions, communicating through our app, and helping dogs stay active, comfortable, and cared for.
What You Can Expect
- Approximately $25–$30 per hour on average, depending on route structure and services completed
- 100% of client tips
- Commission-based W-2 employment
- Consistent weekly routes and familiar dog pairings whenever possible
- Paid onboarding and hands-on training

- Opportunities for additional walks, pet sitting, and expanded roles as Barkley’s grows
Schedule
We are currently hiring team members who can commit to:
- A minimum of 3 consistent weekdays per week
- Availability between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Approximately 15–25 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours as routes grow
Consistency is especially important in this role because our goal is to give dogs familiar walkers and provide clients with dependable weekly routines.
What The Role Looks Like
Walkers typically care for 1–4 dogs at a time, depending on each dog’s temperament, size, compatibility, and care plan.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Completing scheduled dog walks and pet care visits
- Safely transporting dogs in your personal vehicle
- Following detailed pet profiles and care instructions
- Sending visit updates through the Barkley’s Pets scheduling and communication app
- Monitoring dogs for behavioral, physical, or environmental concerns
- Maintaining professional relationships with clients and their pets
- Supporting consistent routines for the dogs assigned to your route
This is an active, independent role. Expect a few miles of walking during a shift, regular travel between client homes, frequent entry and exit from your vehicle, bending, stairs, and outdoor work throughout Boston’s changing weather.
What We’re Looking For
Qualified applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Be available for at least three consistent weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Hold a valid driver’s license
- Have consistent access to a reliable personal vehicle with a fully usable backseat to transport dogs in.
- Have reliable access to a smartphone with cellular data for using the Barkley’s Pets app during each shift
- Live within approximately a 15-20 minute drive of West Roxbury or Roslindale
- Be able to walk a few miles and safely lift approximately 40–50 pounds
- Be comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Follow written care instructions carefully
- Be comfortable working independently while remaining accountable to a team
- Be prepared to make a reliable, longer-term commitment to an established weekly schedule
Do I Need Professional Pet Care Experience?
Professional pet care experience is helpful, but it is not required.
We also consider applicants whose backgrounds demonstrate reliability, independent work, customer service, animal handling, caregiving, transportation, or responsibility for detailed routines.
Strong candidates are willing to learn, ask questions when something is unclear, and consistently follow the systems designed to keep pets safe.
