Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our directional drill crew. The operator will be responsible for operating heavy machinery used in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) projects, assisting with underground utility installations such as fiber optic cables, gas lines, and other conduits. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of operating and maintaining equipment safely while working in various site conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, and loaders.
- Assist with setting up and positioning directional drilling equipment.
- Excavate, backfill, and prepare work areas for underground installations.
- Perform regular maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
- Read and interpret job site plans, utility maps, and schematics.
- Collaborate with the drill crew and project managers to complete tasks efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and company policies.
- Monitor equipment performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Work in varying weather conditions and terrain while maintaining high safety standards.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment operator, preferably with directional drilling crews.
- Knowledge of underground utility installations and directional drilling processes.
- Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment.
- Strong understanding of equipment maintenance and safety protocols.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel to job sites as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy materials (50 lbs or more) and operate machinery for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
