Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and listen carefully to their vehicle concerns to accurately document symptoms and repair needs
- Create detailed repair orders using estimating software, ensuring all necessary services are included with precise descriptions
- Communicate effectively with technicians regarding vehicle diagnostics, repair procedures, and estimated timeframes
- Upsell additional services such as oil changes, tire rotations, alignments, or brake repairs to maximize shop revenue while meeting customer needs
- Maintain clear client communication throughout the repair process, providing updates and explaining repair options in understandable terms
- Handle cash transactions and process payments accurately while maintaining proper documentation
- Collaborate with service technicians to ensure timely completion of repairs and customer satisfaction
- Utilize automotive repair knowledge—including transmissions, diesel engines, collision repair, suspension systems, air brakes, shocks & struts—to inform estimates and recommendations
- Assist in promoting automotive sales by explaining vehicle maintenance plans and recommending suitable products or services
- Ensure all work is documented thoroughly in estimating software and that shop policies are followed diligently
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Service Writer or in a similar auto service management role within a dealership or independent shop setting
- Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive systems including engine repairs, transmissions, oil changes, tire services, alignments, suspension work, brake repairs, shocks & struts.
- Familiarity with estimating software and computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools is highly desirable
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally
- Previous experience in auto body repair or collision repair environments is a plus
- Ability to upsell services tactfully while maintaining integrity and trust with clients
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; driving may be required for test drives or vehicle inspections
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation and cash handling
- Dealership experience or familiarity with auto sales processes is advantageous
