Job Summary
We're looking for a dependable, attentive Residential Counselor to supervise and support individuals with behavioral health needs in a communal living environment. This role requires being physically present and alert for the entirety of the assigned shift, ready to respond to residents' needs at any moment. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. The position may involve transporting individuals in a WiRevive vehicle and reports to the Residential Manager.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the living environment and address safety concerns as they arise
- Respond appropriately to emergencies (fire, severe weather, medical, or behavioral health crises)
- Apply appropriate intervention techniques; provide first aid/CPR when needed; support crisis plans
- Document accurately and promptly in the electronic health record
- Understand each resident's needs and how to respond to them
- Brief the incoming shift on activities and care coordination
- Follow all policies and procedures for medical, behavioral, and fire emergencies
- Ensure compliance with Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) regulations
- Answer phone calls, use sound judgment for resident safety, and report actions to staff and supervisors per protocol
- Perform routine infection control practices
- Maintain service records in accordance with ethical and regulatory requirements
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training
- Maintain vehicle use records
- Conduct routine safety equipment checks and fire/emergency drills
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must pass all required background checks
- Valid Virginia Driver's License, reliable transportation, and a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier
- Must complete a TB test with satisfactory results within 30 days of hire, and annually thereafter
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
- 1–2 years of related experience in a medical or psychological setting working with individuals with behavioral health or co-occurring disorders; experience with a focus on safety and security preferred
- QMHP-A or QMHP-T certification required within 30 days of hire
License/Certification
- QMHP Certification (Required)
